Fremont’s weekend to-do list

Can you believe it’s December already?  It’s getting chilly outside, so bundle up and enjoy all the fun things happening in Fremont this weekend!

  • Just a reminder that the Agent Green event at Red Door (3401 Evanston Ave N) is tonight from 6-10 p.m.  There will be live music and food and drink specials in the bar.
  • The Fremont Historic Survey Project meeting is also tonight from 7:00-8:45 p.m. at the Fremont Baptist Church (717 N. 36th St).  Find out if you live in a historical building!
  • The 17th Annual CoCA 24-Hour Art Marathon and Auction features 20 up & coming and established artists working nonstop for one day.  They’ll be feverishly working at the Fremont Abbey (4272 Fremont Ave N) starting at 9 a.m. on Friday and ending at 9 a.m. on Saturday.  On Saturday night at   6 p.m., all the works will be auctioned off at an event at the Fremont Abbey to benefit both the artists and the Center on Contemporary Art (CoCA).  Cost for the auction is $10.  Anyone can stop by the marathon for free.
  • The Lenin Lighting is a holiday season tradition that can’t be missed.  Featuring the winner of Logan’s Hammer’s Architect Lighting Contest for Lenin and the annual Gingerbread House Build Off, festivities begin at 5 p.m. on Friday at the Lenin Statue (600 N. 36th St).  Lighting takes place at 6 p.m.  Pat Cashman emcees with live music performed by the Fremont Philharmonic and McClure Middle School. 
  • It’s the first weekend of the month so that means First Friday Art Walk happens rain or shine!  Water color illustrator Becky Tau is doing a reading and signing of her first book in the “Animals with Attitude” series at Fremont Place Book Company (621 N. 35th St).  Click here for a full list of events and map.
  • Try winter seasonals from more than 30 Washington breweries at the 2009 Winter Beer Festival.  Enjoy beer and chocolate pairings by Chocolate Box.  This is a fundraiser for the Washington Beer Commission, which represents all 90+ breweries in the state.  Festival takes place Friday from 5-10 p.m. and Saturday from 1-10 p.m. at Hale’s Palladium at Hale’s Ales Brewery (4301 Leary Way NW).  Cost is $23 in advance or $25 at the door.
  • Support the Vision Dance Productions Studio (4128 Fremont Ave N) at their Red Veil Sale fundraiser on Saturday from 11-3 p.m.  Costumes, instructional DVDs, hand-crafted jewelry and, of course, red veils will be for sale.  There will also be live demonstrations and inspirational speakers throughout the day.
  • Local hip hop group Common Market performs FREE at evo (122 NW 36th St) on Saturday from 8-11 p.m.  This is to celebrate The Collection Art Show that opens on Friday night at the Fremont First Friday Art Walk.

Fremont’s Thanksgiving weekend to-do list

Happy Thanksgiving!  Here’s a list of a few happenings this holiday weekend.

  • Finch & Sparrow (3420 Fremont Ave N) is throwing a “Grand Hatching Party” on Friday from 4-8 p.m.  Shop local and meet all the local designers and artists the shop is working with.  There will be wine, gift bags and a drawing for a $100 gift card.

  • Get a preview of the annual Christmas Ship Festival on Saturday and Sunday and receive a discount to ride on the official Christmas Ship.  Both nights will commemorate the new South Lake Union Park to the list of port stops.  Saturday’s parade departs from South Lake Union Park (860 Terry Ave N) at 7 p.m.  The Christmas Ship is sold out for that one, but there’s still space available on the parade boats.  On Sunday, the ships depart from South Lake Union at 6 p.m.  Opening night for this holiday tradition officially kicks off on Tuesday at Gas Works Park (2101 N.   • Joy Street Boutique (720 N. 35th St) closes its doors after Monday so while you’re out shopping this weekend, make sure to stop by and support the shop’s last days.  All items are 50% off excluding jewelry.
