Bridge Way Mural Painting Party Saturday, August 13

August 10th, 2011 by Sean Keeley

It’s been a tough go for the Bridge Way Mural. Originally painted by Patrick Gabriel in 1997, the mural has seen its share of tagging and other vandalism in recent years. There is even some graffiti present right now as well.

Members of the Fremont Neighborhood Council who attended a recent Fremont Arts Council meeting decided to come up with a plan to clean up the mural. They’ll be holding the first of many painting parties this Saturday, August 13.

Volunteers are needed for a painting party scheduled for THIS SATURDAY, August 13th, from 10a – 2p, to remove graffiti from the beleaguered Bridge Way Mural.  At 10a, volunteers can meet at the Powerhouse (3940 Fremont Avenue North) to help carry paint and supplies up to the mural.  At the mural, volunteers will be needed all day to wield a paintbrush, cleaning supplies, and doing some landscaping at the mural along Bridge Way under Aurora Avenue.

The next painting party will be held August 27th

To get involved with the painting party, contact FAC Board President, Michael Clark, at clark27mw@gmail.com.

The 46th Street mural that will grace the portal to Fremont and Wallingford has been sketched onto the wall that runs under Aurora Avenue, and painting is scheduled to begin today.

Artist Todd Lown needed to alter his design to accommodate trolley bus lines that run along N. 46th St. The design originally filled the whole space on the left side of the picture below.

“We like the way the redesign turned out and actually think that the irregularity of the top edge has made the overall design more dynamic,” Patricia Hopper, Project Manager of the Public Art Program in the Mayor’s office, wrote in the approval letter.

Follow the progress on the mural on the project’s Facebook page.

evo building gets ‘hairy’ facelift

April 12th, 2010 by Heidi

Robby Delaware sent us this photo of a new mural that was in progress on Saturday on the west wall of evo (122 NW 36th St).

Molly at evo tells us the design is from one of their vendors, Imperial Motion, and was inspired by the Mustacheo tee in their clothing line.

It will be up for the next couple months and is the first installation of our Living Art Wall that we hope to rotate out every quarter, featuring local artists, partners, and collaborators in hopes of livening up this end of the Fremont strip with a little bit of art for the passerbyers!!

The mural was completed yesterday and people are encouraged to mug with their own mustaches in front of the mural and post pictures on evo’s Facebook page.  (Thanks to Robby for the tip and photo!)

Artist wanted to design 46th Street mural

January 29th, 2010 by Heidi

A project that recently received a Small and Simple Neighborhood Matching Fund award from the City of Seattle is seeking an artist(s) to design a mural for a wall that literally bridges the neighborhoods of Fremont and Wallingford.  The 46th Street Mural Project is looking for a design that will ”bring a positive visual message to pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists traveling under Highway 99 (Aurora Ave.) at N. 46th St.”

The wall is located on the north side of the underpass at N. 46th St. and Aurora Ave N.  The space is described as ”a long wall divided in to 3 sections that taper on both east and west ends– mural design also to include 9 columns that stand in front of the mural wall”.

  • Dimensions–approx. 4500 sq. ft. total (see pictures + diagram)
  • West section: approx.1000 sq. ft.
  • Middle section: approx.1300 sq. ft.
  • East section: approx.1200 sq. ft.
  • 9 columns: approx. 100 sq. ft. ea.

Once a design is selected, Urban Artworks will serve as project manager and do the actual painting of the mural.  At this time, the 46th Street Mural Project is only looking for an artist to design the wall.

Professional artists with previous experience creating outdoor murals are preferable, but all may apply. Artist will be required to be present at the community meeting (early in the process) and dedication (at the completion of the mural) unless distance is prohibitive. If this occurs, an alternative plan will be discussed with the 46th Street Mural Project Steering Committee. The artist must be available for consultation pertaining to the execution of their design throughout the process.

More information and specifics about the selection process can be found on the group’s Facebook page.  Artist applications are due by February 19.  Anyone interested in applying should submit work samples, resume and references to 46thstmural@gmail.com.  The project is slated to begin in May.

September 12th, 2008 by Geeky Swedes

This morning members of the Fremont Arts Council began scrubbing and touching up parts of the mural under the Aurora Bridge on 38th St.

Graffiti, grease and dirt are scattered along the mural under the bridge. Cleaning supplies and paint were donated by Daly’s Paint.

Volunteers will return over the next few days to finish up the job.
