Two-term Mayor Greg Nickels conceded this morning after trailing Mike McGinn and Joe Mallahan since the primary election on Tuesday. Although King County still has around 30,000 ballots left to count, the mayor was in third place trailing leader McGinn by 1,170 votes after Thursday’s count. “I think the people of Seattle decided it was time for a new generation of leadership,” Nickels said at press conference today that the Seattle Times attended. John Burbank called Reuven Carlyle this morning to congratulate him on winning the 36th District seat. With 39% of the vote counted, Reuven Carlyle is ahead of fellow Democrat John Burbank 65 to 35%, a separation that will likely not change drastically. You can get the latest results here.

Throughout the campaign and the candidate forums, Carlyle aligned himself with Obama, a strategy that appears to have worked wonders. “I am deeply inspired by the depth and thoughtful approach to our country’s challenges that Barack Obama brings to our public dialogue,” he wrote on his website. “I want to help bring that level of dialogue and solutions to state government and move beyond the old fashioned fistfights in Olympia of yesterday.”

Portage Bay Goods has those hard-to-find election knick-knacks.

In true Fremont style, most items are Obama gear.

Because you have to have the Barack Obama magnetic wardrobe. Or action figure. Or the pink “Baby Got Barack” onesie.

We all know that J.P. Patches is a big fan of buttons. So when his “Late for the Interurban” statue was unveiled a couple months ago, it featured several hooks on the front for people to add their own.

It now features several buttons, including (appropriately) the Seafair clowns. There’s also a “Keep Fremont Parking Free” button. And wait, what’s this?

It’s a campaign button for Alex Rion, a Republican running for the 32nd legislative seat. We don’t know if J.P. is a Republican, but you have to admit it does seem a little out of place for Fremont, of all places — especially when you consider the 32 District doesn’t even cover the neighborhood.
