New in Fremont: pizza, more pizza and fish

January 25th, 2009 by Geeky Swedes

We have some new additions in Fremont over the last few weeks:

Just before the first of the year, Via Tribunali opened on Fremont Ave near 43rd, right next door to Cafe Vita. The Neapolitan-style pizza place is well-known in Capitol Hill and Queen Anne.

Their latest restaurant features the same wood-fired, Old-World style of pizza.

On Leary and 39th, at the old space of Hoki’s Teriyaki Hut, is another new pizza restaurant called “Aberonas.” More than pizza, the new lunch spot features pasta, calzones, sandwiches and salads — with a Greek twist.

Just up a few blocks from Alberonas at 36th St. near 1st Ave., Seattle Fish Company has opened for business. It’s their second shop in Seattle.

Seattle Fish is known for, well, very fresh fish. A quick scan of the display cases reveals a wide variety of the good stuff, including ahi tuna with that deep red hue. Coming as soon as the liquor license is approved: wine sales.

If you’ve stopped by Via Tribunali, Aberonas or Seattle Fish, please let us what you think in comments below…

Seattle Fish Company coming to Fremont

November 30th, 2008 by Geeky Swedes

But you probably already know about it. After all, you can’t miss the big red neon sign that just went up on a storefront along N. 36th St. near 1st Ave.

Seattle Fish Company specializes in overnighting fresh fish just about anywhere, but they also have a retail store in West Seattle. And soon, in Fremont at 112 N 36th St. While we haven’t visited the West Seattle store before, one reviewer on Yelp explains, “Great fish. Expensive, but great. You get what you pay for.” Others also praised the helpful “down to earth” service. Seattle Fish says they hope to open in early or mid December, depending on how quickly the final construction is completed.

Archie McPhee moving (almost) to Fremont

September 30th, 2008 by Geeky Swedes

Ballard’s popular toy and gadget store Archie McPhee is moving to 45th and Stone Way next year, a store spokesperson says. A liquor store currently occupies the site. “We don’t have a solid date yet, (and) it depends on when we can get occupancy and finish painting and such,” Archie McPhee’s David Wahl explains, estimating it will be around the middle of next year. You may remember Archie McPhee’s original home was on Stone Way in Fremont, so the new location will be right down the street. And yes, since McPhee’s is moving to the NE corner of 45th and Stone Way, it’s technically Wallingford, according to the city of Seattle’s official map. But barely. Since it’s right on the border, perhaps we can just say they’re back in Fremont?

New boutique opens, another moving out

September 2nd, 2008 by Geeky Swedes

Show Pony has just opened in a cozy space on 36th St.

The owner used to own Olivine in Ballard before she moved to Fremont.

And now Horseshoe, a boutique on 35th St., is planning to close down and move to Ballard. When it’s owner, Jill Renae Anderson, heard that Olivine was closing, she jumped at the chance to move into the larger space. She plans to close the Fremont shop at the end of the month and open in Ballard in October.

Update: While Show Pony appeared to be open when we went by on Labor Day, the website and voicemail both say the boutique will open on the 13th.
