September 2nd, 2010 by Doug Alder

A former Fremont resident dropped us a line after taking some great photos, including the one above, of the new 46th Street Mural that was just completed. William Anthony met the mural’s creator and set up a photo shoot last weekend. You can see more of the photos here on unurth.com. Thanks for sharing William!

46th Street mural celebration

August 16th, 2010 by Marina Gordon

If you drive or walk past N. 46th and Aurora, you’ve no doubt noticed the steady progress on the mural that beautifies the link between Fremont and Wallingford. The 46th Street Mural — which Todd Lown designed and has been painted by Urban ArtWorks and community members — is almost complete, and the folks behind it have scheduled a community celebration. Mark your calendar for Friday, Aug. 27, 3-6 p.m. More info will be coming soon.

Seattle Bank (which has a branch at Stone Way and N. 44th St.) donated funds essential to finishing the project, Linda Clifton, secretary of the 46th Street Mural Project Steering Committee, said in a press release. “This mural project has really brought neighbors and the community together,” said Clifton. “We are grateful to Seattle Bank for this crucial donation for completing the project and celebrating it with the community.”

The project is funded in part by a Neighborhood Matching Fund award of the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods. The fiscal sponsor is the Fremont Neighborhood Council.

46th Street mural painting to begin

July 7th, 2010 by Marina Gordon

UPDATE: Paint is up on the wall now!

The 46th Street mural that will grace the portal to Fremont and Wallingford has been sketched onto the wall that runs under Aurora Avenue, and painting is scheduled to begin today.

Artist Todd Lown needed to alter his design to accommodate trolley bus lines that run along N. 46th St. The design originally filled the whole space on the left side of the picture below.

“We like the way the redesign turned out and actually think that the irregularity of the top edge has made the overall design more dynamic,” Patricia Hopper, Project Manager of the Public Art Program in the Mayor’s office, wrote in the approval letter.

Follow the progress on the mural on the project’s Facebook page.
