The Paseo-pocalypse Is Upon Us

By Sean Keeley · December 20th, 2011 · 13 Comments

Foretold in prophecy, there will come a time when Fremont will not run free with marinade-basted Cubed pork loin and generous portions of jasmine rice & black beans. We are told that a day will come when we can’t just walk up to Paseo and order as much food as we have cash in our pocket.

The end is nigh. Well, at least until February.

If you want your fix, get to it. In the meantime, the intrepid folks over at Pecado Bueno have put up fliers on the light poles around Paseo to offer up an alternative to weeping openly over lost spicy meals.

Holy crap! Don’t scare me with a headline like that!!! ;-)

I saw you taking these photos as I drove by and wondered if it meant what I thought it meant.

It does… and the day has come upon us. The darkest, porkwichless nights of the year have arrived, like the unwelcoming North Wind.

Lots of yummy pork up the hill at Dot’s, too. A great time for people to support another business in the neighborhood!

Is that annual vacation getting longer, or is it just that the hunger is more intense?

It’s longer by about three days. Hopefully that’s not a trend.

is that comic sans on that pescado bueno flyer?

    isn’t that font illegal?!

@whiskeypony Yes, it’s an illegal font :) … There’s no way Pecado Bueno can fill the void of Paseo being closed for so long… good try Pecado but No bueno.

kinda cheesy, Pecado….gathering business from your “competition” via neon green flyers while they are closed? classy.

I got Pecado’s hot dog and ceviche today. Pretty good, and I hear the $3 margaritas are tasty…

Upon reading this post, I thought it was a bit tacky for Pecado Bueno to be posting advertisements right outside of Paseo, but I was intrigued about the possibility of another Cuban restaurant nearby. Needless to say, I looked them up on Yelp to see if they were any good. Unfortunately, I learned that they are a Mexican restaurant, which is not a bad thing; it’s disappointing since they offered themselves as a substitute for Paseo, which is Cuban. Still, I probably would have gone there to check it out had I stopped reading after the first couple of reviews. I regret that I did not. As I read on, I found replies in which James S., who is apparently a representative of Pecado Bueno, calls Yelpers “Morons” and tells them not to come back because he doesn’t need their business. Well, I guess he doesn’t need mine either because this is no way to customers or to portray your business. I’m sorry, but that is just not the way to respond to constructive criticism. In these hard times, a new restaurant like this should be glad that anyone even cared enough about it enough to post a review on Yelp and should cherish every potential customer.

Been there three times. The food is bland and the salsa was not fresh (it was left over from the previous day). Also, the owner is overbearing.

Don’t believe me, read his (James) own words:

I too read his postingings on Yelp, and I think he said that they let Morons write reviews and I have to admit I have read lots of reviews that I thought must have been unfair or written by Morons. Also there is a sign that says the owners told him they are OK with his posting the signs, and he has always let Peseo customers eat their food in his restaurant because he knows that the next time they might try his food, seems like a smart business. And what is wrong with trying out some new s[pots when your favorite spot is closed for 6 weeks. I for one enjoy the new business that have opened in our area, lets have a few more open up.
