Michelle writes in to let us know of a car theft that occurred Tuesday night. Unfortunately, it was her own.
I live in Fremont and parked in front of the Burke Building on N 34th St last night. When I got to my car this morning to go to work, I found my front passenger window smashed in. Nothing was stolen - there was nothing of value to steal - just some random bits from the center console rifled through and strewn about. It’s doubtful anyone saw anything but I just wanted to give a heads up to you and the other Fremontsters … perhaps people can keep their eyes peeled and report (and hopefully prevent) any similar break-ins from happening.
There were also recent car thefts on the 800 block of 40th St. (12/31) and on the 300 block of 44th St. (12/31). Just a friendly reminder to keep valuables out of your car if you’re parking on the street.

My car window was also smashed, I think on the night of 1/1 (but I was out of town for a bit previously, and didn’t check my car when I got home on New Year’s.) I live around Linden & 45th, and my car was parked in the my covered parking spot below my building. The car parked next to mine also had a smashed window. I didn’t think anything was stolen, but I realized yesterday my cd book is gone. Unfortunately for the culprit, all that was in there were some ridiculous car mix CDs, Kelly Clarkson and some Beyonce.

Thanks for publishing my note. When I brought my car in to the garage (in Greenwood) to get fixed, the folks their said that they’ve received a bunch of calls lately for broken windows due to break-ins.

We live up the hill in “residential Fremont” above 39th and see neighbors’ car windows smashed regularly. We have not been victimized, perhaps through luck or maybe it is our habit of leaving the car doors unlocked with nothing worth stealing inside. Sometimes our glove box is rifled through, which is icky, but causes no damage to the car.
