The Buck’s final days

By Doug Alder · September 15th, 2010 · 10 Comments

The sad countdown has started at Fremont’s famous Buckaroo Tavern.  This Friday (9/17), the landmark bar and gathering place will close its doors for good, at least at its current location on Fremont Avenue.  As the “last call” party continues (the bar officially closes at 2am Saturday), we look back at the Buck with the help of the nonprofit Common Language Project and students of the University of Washington’s Special Topics in Communication class.  Be sure to check out the video that runs down the list of the Buck’s colorful customers.

A shame. Anon is right, it was an oasis in a desert of frat bars. The last true tavern in Fremont.

Ditto. Everything these days seems-in order to be successful-to have to act like something it’s not. You name it: music, clothes, food, cars, people, art… The Buck is/was one of the last shining examples of authenticity in Seattle’s bar scene, and now it’s gone. Sad.

I was there tonight, the place was packed, it was surreal. Felt like the end days were upon us. Only the best people were there

And then I went home and watched star wars. The icing on the cake of a perfect nite.

Rock-N-Roll! Wooo-whoooo! What a great time last night at the Buck for the final evening of fun. Classic, rowdy, fun, happy crowd. So long Buck, you were one of the best!

Did I mention everyone sharing pichers of beer. What a great time!

The Buck was one of the biggest meat market scenes in town. Good riddance. And to all those self righteous one time visitors who are so sad to see a Seattle “institution” go down, perhaps you should have considered a second visit. Oh, it wasn’t worth it, was it?
