We’ve learned the vacant space above Chiso sushi restaurant is about to reopen. Showa, formerly Kappo, has just applied for a liquor license in the Peck Building at 701 N 36th.

Chiso will soon have a new neighbor upstairs
Earlier this year, Taichi Kitamura sold Chiso and closed the upstairs intimate Kappo before opening a new place on Eastlake. Kitmura’s name is on the liquor license application for Showa, so it appears he will be making a return to Fremont. In fact, this summer he told our news partners at the Seattle Times that he might turn the place into an izakaya.

Just walked past Chiso this evening - from my view it looked very busy (full?). I will have to check it out. Would be very interested to try out an izakaya in my neighborhood.

Yes, Chiso is still open. It’s the space above Chiso that has been vacant and is about to reopen.

An izakaya within walking distance? I’m never going to leave!

Looks like bars are the only recession-proof business.

@mark: are you thinking of Still Life Café (now 35th St Bistro)?
