New photos of 46th Street Mural

By Doug Alder · September 2nd, 2010 · 3 Comments

A former Fremont resident dropped us a line after taking some great photos, including the one above, of the new 46th Street Mural that was just completed. William Anthony met the mural’s creator and set up a photo shoot last weekend. You can see more of the photos here on unurth.com. Thanks for sharing William!

I really think that these murals around the city should have protective black city-fencing with barbed wire in front of them, in order to prevent the murals from becoming covered with graffiti and gang-tagging. By the end of the month, only half the mural will be visible, albeit only in isolated areas. Honestly, the organizations who fund this mural and others should really raise more funds for anti-graffiti fences. It’s the only way to keep the murals looking peaceful and undisturbed.

Agree 100%. We can’t have any nice things anymore, because the scumbags ruin everything. I used to be happy to see murals like this, but Seattle is not a place for these kinds of things anymore. This is just another city with plenty of creeps and idiots who will quickly wreck it. Murals only make it harder and more costly to clean up after them. Better to just choose one or two standard colors (gray seems like a realistic if depressing choice ) and just paint everything with that. When the tags show up the next day, keep painting it over. Yeah, that sucks, but that’s the city we live in, like it or not.

Fencing? Really, let’s be realistic. Taggers would just tag the fencing and try to do more to damage the murals. Not to mention the fact that a fence would impede on ability to enjoy and view the mural in the manner that the artist planned.
Plus then folks would just complain about money being spent to protect (cover up) the murals. Let’s just post snipers to blow away would be taggers.
