By Athima Chansanchai · June 9th, 2010 · No Comments

Friday after work in Fremont, keep on your business attire - and run/walk to benefit charity.

It’s time again for the Fremont 5K & Briefcase Relay, beginning at 6 p.m. The 5K begins at 7 p.m. Organizers are expecting close to 1,000 people, with about 250 of them in the costumed briefcase relay.

Those who registered by mail, in-store or online before noon on Tuesday, June 8 are eligible to pick up race packets and shirts at Super Jock n Jill on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. If you registered after this, you need to pick your packet up on Friday at the race.

If you’re participating in the Briefcase Relay, teams consist of 5 people who each run a kilometer of the 5K course while dressed from the waist up in business attire. The first 60 registered 5-person briefcase relay teams will receive 300 free CHINOOK BOOK coupon books, thanks to PCC Natural Markets.

Each team must carry a briefcase that is relayed from team member to the next until the last (the 5th) team member crosses the finish line.

Briefcase relay participants are also being asked to carry 5 cans of food in their briefcases that then will be donated to the FamilyWorks food bank.

The event benefits two charities. Besides FamilyWorks, a cash donation is given to Solid Ground. Both non-profits are in the same building in Wallingford, but are seperate organizations.

The event has been around for more than 20 years, having been part of the Fremont Fair.
