A woman may have been the victim of a taser attack and robbery last Monday (5/17). Fremont Universe has obtained a copy of the police report detailing what happened in the 4200 block of Phinney Ave. Around 1:45pm that day, a woman was unloading her car in the parking garage of an apartment building. She suddenly felt an electric shock on her neck and was pushed down into the trunk of the car. A man then grabbed her purse and walked to a nearby getaway car. The man is described as black, late teens, medium build, 5′5″. He got into a gray or dark silver sedan with an Asian woman. It turns out someone got a license plate number, but the plate had been stolen off another car.

Technical correction: “Taser” is a brand name used in reference to a device that shoots barbed projectile electrodes, attached by thin wires to a control unit. More likely the device referenced in this story was what’s commonly called a “stun gun”, which is a handheld device with two fixed electrodes about an inch or two apart. Tasers can be deployed over distance, whereas a stun gun need to be physically pressed against someone to work.
There are Tasers that also work as stun guns, but the effects on the person receiving the shock are significantly different between the two methods of use. Taser electrodes typically span a larger distance than stun gun electrodes when they contact the subject’s body. The wider the spread of the electrodes, the greater the effect on the subject.
