Bike Friendly Seattle

By Doug Alder · April 7th, 2010 · 5 Comments

 Bicycling Magazine ranks Seattle #4 in the nation when it comes to Bike Friendly cities.  Here’s what they have to say about the reason for such a high ranking.

Seattle has a 10-year, $240-million bike master plan that seeks to triple the number of journeys made by bike and add 450 miles of bike paths.

Minneapolis, Portland, and Boulder, CO took the top three spots.  The magazine has also published a list of bike routes around the Seattle area submitted by readers.

    I wonder if anyone from B.M. has actually ridden a bike in Seattle?… It might look good on paper, but commuting in this city can be pretty sh!tty. The mere gestures of increased signage and documented bicycle “routes” don't make things any safer, frankly.

    @ Schnooze. Sure, we got a long way to go. But have you ever tried to ride your bike in Dallas? Try that, then you'll realize how good we've got it.

    @Mike - I haven't had the pleasure, but your comment is well-taken.

    Anyone hating on biking here in Seattle has never ridden in the rest of country on a regular basis. Relatively speaking, Seattle's paradise, which may say more about the rest of the country than it does Seattle.
