New Year’s Eve happenings in the hood

2009 is coming to a close and it’s almost time to welcome a new decade.  There are many events in Fremont to help you celebrate the new year.  To help you get started, this is a short list of ideas:

  • Dance to the improvised soul/funk sounds from Seattle’s Groove scene at ToST (513 N. 36th St, #E).  Marmalade presents “New Year’s Eve featuring Surrealized and DJ Leopold Bloom” starting at 9 p.m.  Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door.  A limited number of tables can also be reserved for an additional $10/person.
  • Next door at High Dive (513 N. 36th St), ring in the New Year with the soul-jazz quartet McTuff and the funky tunes of Haiku-Chi.  Show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are $10.
  • For something with a little more bling, DList Magazine is hosting “New Year’s 2010” at Fremont Studios (155 N. 35th St).  This party features live performances by R&B artist Ryan Leslie and Las Vegas’ DJ Ikon (resident DJ at Pure, Ghost Bar and Moon).  Tickets range from $55-$99 (depending how VIP you want to be).  Proceeds are benefitting C.A.T.C.H. – The Nate Burleson Foundation.
  • Nectar Lounge (412 N. 36th St) is presenting “A Blue Moon Spacy Odyssey featuring Panda Conspiracy, Big High and The Elements”.  Doors open at 8 p.m.  Tickets are $15 in advance.  More information can be found here.

Wherever your mood takes you, remember to be safe, smart and plan ahead.  The Seattle Police Department will be stepping up their DUI enforcement, and a DUI would be a horrible way to start off 2010.  Most of all, have fun and have a very Happy New Year!
