Simpsons birthday bash to be held in Fremont

By Geeky Swedes · July 14th, 2009 · Comments

The longest-running American sitcom, The Simpsons will soon celebrate 20 years on TV. And producers have selected Fremont’s Oktoberfest as the West Coast home of the birthday celebrations. Why? “The team over at The Simpsons camp thought that the Fremont Oktoberfest fits the show demographics ‘like a glove,’” reads a press release. And of course, we know Homer likes his beer. As part of The Simpsons sponsorship, Oktoberfest guests will receive “commemorative glassware,” and the show will sponsor the main stage events. Oktoberfest runs September 18 to 20th. (Thanks Sean for the tip!)

Or you can go to the Phinney Neighborhood Association beer festival this weekend.

And, Gurple, I haven't been to the Fremont Octoberfest in awhile either because of the venue change. It has a whole prison yard feel to it in that parking lot. I go this time for the Simpsons angle, though.

I love love love the simpsons. BUt I have a very strong dislike for Bold Hat Productions. I know some of the monies go to charity(i think?), that's still not enough for me to go to a event put on by this company.

I volunteered for 2 beer festivals with them and it was my worst ever volunteer experience. After the first one I was like maybe it was a weird fluke, so I gave it another chance. Nope next time was worst than the first. I cannot support a group that treats volunteers so poorly.

So I save my monies, (cause they raise the price every year too!) and just got to Ballard Market or Bottleworks in wallingford and do my own darn oktoberfest.

  • I used to love Fremont Oktoberfest when it was over by the bridge. Then I went for the first two years in the new location, and it was pretty joyless. Not as many people came from the actual breweries, and the all-asphalt space is not nearly as fun as the old grassy area. I haven't gone recently... has it gotten any better?

I like the Simpsons, but this smacks of desperate, irrelevant corporate tie-in.

sweet, this year when some drunk prick from bellevue hits my car in my driveway, i can blame matt groening instead of the chamber of commerce or bold hat productions!
