Lenin turned into eye-catching advertisement

By Geeky Swedes · June 27th, 2009 · Comments

This was catching people’s attention in Fremont today.

A noose around Lenin’s neck holds a sign that says, “Size Matters. I’m Just a Capitalist Tool.” If you look closely, you’ll see who put it up there.

Taco del Mar, which is located right behind the statue. The restaurant recently re-opened after being closed for several months. So is putting Lenin to work to sell tacos smart advertising? Or a shameless publicity stunt that takes advantage of Fremont’s public art?

shameless stunt. take it down. it's bad enough that place was closed for 4 months and we thought a decent taco eatery would open up in fremont in its place...
  • Raul
Not the best tacos, not sure you can call them tacos, not actually sure you can call it food, shameless stunt.
  • J Harris
Much cooler the year they built a burrito for his outstretched hand....
  • Oberon
There was a stabbling in Fremont last weekend, unreported here, and this is what qualifies as news?

Good thing Bar Brawls are not News Worthy, sorry for the victim but SNNNNOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRE.
  • Agreed with Raul: we need some good tacos in Fremont, not this nearly inedible stuff that Taco del Mar serves. Hell, Baja Fresh was better. Too bad they closed down.
  • Lana Gilbert
Smart advertising! I can't wait to see what he says next.....

it is good to see Lenin's murderous, fascist past put to some good work in Fremont, although it does very little for the millions he & his regime killed.
  • comrad Conrad
    don't confuse Lenin with Stalin.
  • Stupid Hippie
Yes, Lenin only murdered thousands and established a regime that murdered millions over 70 years. In Fremont, that makes him our hero!
  • Conrad
Do your history, Who said "we have not killed enough professors"? Who had a bunch of kids killed for fear of what they might or might not do in the future? Tell me how did Lenin deal with political opposition? Lenin and Stalin were from the same group, Lenin just wasn’t around as long as Stalin. Don't kid your self, he was a murderer.

So when does Fremont get a Hitler statue?
  • Brent
When if Fremont going to get a G. W. Bush statue?

Just kidding. Seriously though, I view the statue of Lenin as a slap in the face to communism. Sort of a "nah nah, we won" type thing. Not unlike WWII heroes taking home Nazi paraphernalia as a trophy of victory. We put American presidents' pictures on dollar bills, and yet none of you bitch and moan about the thousands of deaths of the native peoples of this land caused by said presidents.
  • Chris
We're using socialism to save capitalism everywhere else (Wall St., GM, etc), so why not in Fremont?
  • Mike
I LIKE Taco Del Mar. What?
  • Lenin's statue
I like it too, and the people are nice there.
  • I like Taco Del Mar, too. What's with all the haters?

    Jeez.
  • shawn
    "Shameless stunt?" Um, shameless statue.
