Daily news for Seattle's Fremont neighborhood

Baja Fresh closes up shop

By Geeky Swedes · March 2nd, 2009 · Comments

The Baja Fresh restaurant, right across from Peet’s Coffee at the entrance of the Fremont Bridge, has closed down for good.

“We thank our loyal customers,” a sign on the door says. “Please visit our other locations.” Those locations are Redmond and Everett, a little too far for the Fremont tech crowd to drive for lunch. This has been coming for quite some time — Baja Fresh has had a “for lease” sign in the window for several months now. (Thanks Nick, JR and Jeff for the tips!)

I'm not sorry to see a chain store leave the neighborhood. And as long as it's not another Thai restaurant opening in its place, I'll be happy. Seriously, I'd trade 5 of our Thai places for one decent authentic Mexican place, or a drug store, or a newsstand.

I agree with CHenn, a CHIPOTLE here would be amazing!! i love that place!!!!!

I will miss that carnitas guac and pico de gallo burrito.

On the other other hand I won't miss paying $8 for it.

I would rather have a Chipotle there. Actually, Taco Del Mar is fine-Does Fremont really need more Mexican fast food places? Tacos Guymas is OK but still.....

This place is NOT that good. I hope something better replaces it.

A big disappointment. Although Baja Fresh is not the best place in terms of authentic Mexican restaurants, it is VERY good in the chain/takeout/California-style mexican restaurants. Given that Seattle has a whole lot of nothing (with a few exceptions) in both departments, this is an unfortunate closure. It never fails to hit the spot if you're in the mood for a delicious, fresh, quality tasting, nuevo-mexico style burrito. And it is much better than (McDonald's owned) Chipotle.

Yah, it's great having an empty space on the corner...and Fremont is full of Subways and tanning salons - what?
  • CHenn
    Yippieee!!!!!!
If we could only get the suntan booth places and the check cashing stores and the subways on every corner to close..there might be hope that Fremont/Ballard will be able to maintain some unique character.

Bummer! I loved their salsa and the staff was always so friendly.
